SUMMARY:Democracy in trouble? Who cares.
DESCRIPTION:Tool Talk V\nClimate change – What impact does it have on our democracy?\nDate: Monday, June 12/ 2023, 7-9 p.m\nWhere: SOHO STUDIOS, Sandleitenhof, Liebknechtgasse 32, 1160 Vienna\nArtistic input: Ege Kökel\nImpulse: Helga Kromp-Kolb, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna\nModerator: stadt:wurzel\nThe threat of climate change can also be seen as an opportunity for overdue changes. Steps that are necessary for climate protection can also have other desirable effects.\nHelga Kromp-Kolb became known for her research work and her commitment to global climate change. In 2019, she attracted attention in an interview with the Kronen Zeitung, in which she was asked whether one should fly the airplane at all: “One should think carefully about whether it is really necessary. Because as we asked our parents: What was it like under National Socialism? What did you know? What did you do? In the same way, our children and grandchildren will one day ask us: How was the climate? What did you know? What did you do? If I then answer: ¨I still flew to London on a shopping spree¨, that wouldn’t be a nice answer.“\nHelga Kromp-Kolb studied meteorology at the University of Vienna. Until 1995 she worked as a lecturer at the University of Vienna and headed the Department of Environmental Meteorology from 1986 to 1995. In 1995 she became a full university professor at the Institute for Meteorology at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna. She still holds courses at the University of Vienna. She is President of the Science & Environment Forum.\nEge Kökel is a designer and artistic researcher with an interest in more-than-human perspectives and the future. In 2019. she received her Master in Industrial Design/Design Investigations at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. She uses design as a tool for research, speculation and discussion. Working with others as well as in other disciplines and exploring different points of view, are important aspects of her work.\nstadt:wurzel\nSince 2016, the association “stadt:wurzel” is dedicated to topics in theory and practice on living together in the urban sphere. Its goal is to understand the city we live in: with its residents, its cultural diversity and its history. And to help shape it. http://stadtwurzel.at/\n
