SUMMARY:Democracy in trouble? Who cares.
DESCRIPTION:Tool Talk IV\nHealth – co-determination and safeguarding. A democratic health care system of the future: what can it look like? \nDate: Wednesday, May 31/ 2023, 7-9 p.m.\nWhere: SOHO STUDIOS, Sandleitenhof, Liebknechtgasse 32, 1160 Vienna\nArtistic input: Marie Miklau, actress\nImpulse: Martin Schenk, Diakonie Austria\nModerator: stadt:wurzel\nIn Austria, the years of the pandemic have permanently divided society. Access to the health system, self and co-determination instead of paternalistic decision making was a hot topic for debates on many levels.\nOn the whole, the healthcare system is facing many serious challenges. We need to talk about them!\nMartin Schenk is a social expert, deputy director of Diakonie Austria and co-founder of the „Poverty Conference“. His focus is on welfare policy, health, children/youth and integration.\nMarie Miklau completed her training in Austria, France and Spain. She performed at the Volkstheater Wien with Rolando Villazón and in Peter Kern’s film „Donauleichen“ in the leading role, as an actress and singer. She is a clown and artistic director at the Red Noses Clown doctors in Vienna.\n\n5 Tool Talks / April – June 2023\nDemocracy in trouble? Who cares. \nA series of debates on the survival of democracy\nCollaborating partner: stadt:wurzel\nCo-determination, exchange of ideas and participation must be actively imbedded in the core of democracy.\nDemocracy is a way of life and a system, in which free elections are the highest form of expression. A democracy is only as strong as the commitment of its citizens, regardless of gender, social status and age. It is therefore crucial for democracy and its survival that citizens participate in the shaping of democratic processes and decision making – today and in the future.\nIdeally, everyone should care about the well-being of the community and share responsibility for what is decided. But in view of the many global challenges such as environmental degradation, armed conflicts and social inequality, where are democratically organized societies heading today? And how can future generations shape a democratically organized society in which it is desirable to be an active part of it?\nThe series of „Tool Talks“ combine short topic-oriented expert impulses with everyday experience and knowledge exchange from the audience.\nAll topics of the „Tool Talks“ are conducted under the aspect of gender justice.\nThe evenings are framed by artistic interventions.\n
