SUMMARY:Democracy in trouble? Who cares.
DESCRIPTION:5 Tool Talks / April – June 2023\nDemocracy in trouble? Who cares. \nA series of debates on the survival of democracy\nCollaborating partner: stadt:wurzel\nCo-determination, exchange of ideas and participation must be actively imbedded in the core of democracy.\nDemocracy is a way of life and a system, in which free elections are the highest form of expression. A democracy is only as strong as the commitment of its citizens, regardless of gender, social status and age. It is therefore crucial for democracy and its survival that citizens participate in the shaping of democratic processes and decision making – today and in the future.\nIdeally, everyone should care about the well-being of the community and share responsibility for what is decided. But in view of the many global challenges such as environmental degradation, armed conflicts and social inequality, where are democratically organized societies heading today? And how can future generations shape a democratically organized society in which it is desirable to be an active part of it?\nThe series of „Tool Talks“ combine short topic-oriented expert impulses with everyday experience and knowledge exchange from the audience.\nAll topics of the „Tool Talks“ are conducted under the aspect of gender justice.\nThe evenings are framed by artistic interventions.\nTool Talk I\nDemocracy – How can we secure the foundations of democracy for the future?\nDate: Wednesday, April 19/ 2023, 7-9 p.m.\nWhere: SOHO STUDIOS, Sandleitenhof, Liebknechtgasse 32, 1160 Vienna\nArtistic input: Christina Werner\nImpulse: Martina Zandonella, SORA\nModerator: stadt:wurzel\nBased on the Democracy Index 2022, the state of democracy in Austria is the topic of Tool Talk I.\nMartina Zandonella studied psychology with a focus on social psychology. Since 2008, she has been part of the SORA team, one of the leading private social science institutes in Europe. Her research focuses on democracy and participation, inequality and political psychology.\nChristina Werner is an artist who studied photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig.\n„There are two characteristics that distinguish Christina Werner’s artistic work in recent years: an interest in changes in global conditions, especially those that have to do with the current migration movements, a resurgent nationalism, and an awareness or a great sensitivity in relation to questions of representation.” (Hemma Schmutz, Bilderheft 296/2017, SOLO VIII, Photo Gallery Vienna)\n
